I cannot live without books. When I go to school there is always at least 3 books of mine in there. My shelf is bulging and I really need a new one for all the ones that I will buy in the future. I personally prefer adventure, paranormal, and mystery novels. I also love reading plays like Shakespeare's.

I admit, I frequently judge a book by it's cover, but if I didn't, there wouldn't be time for anything but reading. I usually trust my best friend when she gives me book suggestions, but I always read the book jacket or back cover anyway. I spend a lot of time on bookstore websites, looking for books to put on my "to read" list. I like books for teens, but not currently popular teen books (think 'Twilight'). Elizabeth Scott, Sarah Dessen, Simone Elkeles, etc.

I have been an avid reader since early childhood. I am an only child, and moved a lot growing up. Books and the characters within were my constant friends. I always loved and looked forward to visiting the public and school libraries. My night table always has three or four books stacked on it, and I almost never go to sleep without reading a bit. I always carry a book in case I have to wait on line or in a waiting room. I share books with my family and friends, and spent my career as a teacher of reading. As a retiree, I am egaged in adult literacy, which I find immensely rewarding.

I love classical and contemporary literature. I enjoy reading myths and fairy tales too. I'm also discovering the genre of good young adult literature. Some of my favorite novels and dramas deal with the initiation theme such as The Lord of the Flies, To Kill a Mockingbird, or The Chocolate War, The Catcher in the Rye. I tend to read the summary first before I read the book. I won't just jump to reading the book, in case it's really boring and doesn't satisfy my needs. I sometimes judge a book by it's cover, literally. If I see a book that has a beautiful cover, I will read the summary first, to make sure it's worth reading, then buy it.

Love to read all sorts of fiction, mainly literary, some poetry (but am poorly educated, poetry-wise, so working on that). Interested in wide range of non-fiction, particularly health, illness, psychology, writing, history, some geography/travel, politics, gardening, art, nature...I think you get the idea!

Reading since 4. Recently moved from East Coast to West; after much weeding (I sold 20 boxes to my employer, a used/rare book dealer), we only had 47 boxes of books left to put on the truck. Yikes! Yes, I was an English major; now a librarian. No Kindles for me.
